Daily: what it solved and how
A current-affairs and quiz app for exam aspirants: a structured daily brief, streaks and quizzes, backed by its own Next.js API and admin dashboard.
The thinking
One decision worth defending
- 01
Problem
Exam aspirants need a structured daily read, and an open-ended news feed never ends, so it never becomes a habit.
- 02
Decision
Give the reader a daily brief with a finish line, and keep the app's API key and the admin dashboard's login as two separate auth systems.
- 03
Why it holds
Short cards with a reading time, one consistent structure per article and a streak turn reading into a daily routine. Two credentials with different threat models mean one leak does not open everything.
What it includes
Built
- A date carousel of daily articles as short, colour-coded cards with a reading time
- A consistent article page: source, subject tag, a short context and linked background reading
- A streak tracker with a weekly view and unlockable badges
- A daily quiz mixing quick MCQs and statement-based questions
- A Next.js API and an admin dashboard for sources, API keys and ingestion runs
A brief has an end and a feed does not. And use separate credentials for separate jobs: it costs little and limits the damage of any single leak.
Keep going
